Okay... so it's been a while since my last entry. Sad, I know. And there's been a ton of shit going on too. Don't get too excited though, it's still mostly game and anime related - but that's just how I roll. Where to begin though? Well...
So I've been playing RO with Aya, and it's been surprisingly fun. Not surprising in the fact that it's fun playing something with Aya, but more so the fact that I'm actually playing RO again. I have three accounts on the Gathering RO server, two of them are full with maxed out characters - one of each class. And let me just say that I have some pretty fucking rad characters. Like my Lord Knight Count Chocula, along with my Battle High Priest Frankenberry, and Assassin Cross Boo Berries. The Count is a diabetic vampire who feeds on other diabetics, he also fought in the Cereal Crusades with his friends Frankenberry and Boo Berries. Frankenberry was scarred by the horrors of war and thus can only find comfort in the arms of a big strong black man, and Boo Berry is a fucking pothead whos constantly blitzed out of his mind. I have other awesome characters like Halibut, a Champion with a Fish Hat and a Fish in Mouth who fights with fish, and his finishing move is called The Hand of Cod. I also made a joke guild called Ballin Ass RO, who was originally lead by the Perma-Swordie Lil Wang, but has since changed hands to Carlton Banks. Yeah - we have a lot of fun with this shit.
Aside from RO I've been playing a few other games as well. Star Ocean: The Last Hope for example which is pretty terrible all things considering. I had hope for this game originally, but once I played Infinite Undiscovery, another game from Tri-ace studios I started to doubt it. Sadly that seems to be the case as the game is plagued by a myriad of problems. Chief among them being some of the most important parts of an RPG - a good story, and likeable characters - both missing from this game. The voice acting is also some of the worst I've heard to date, and that's sad considering I've played a lot of early PSX RPGs. The combat system is really the game's only saving grace and even that isn't as good as the combat from Star Ocean: Til The End of Time. It's sad because I'm starting to lose hope in a really good JRPG in this generation - Tales of Vesperia excluded. I'll probably write more about Star Ocean at length once I beat it, or give up on it - whichever comes first.
Next up is Dragon Quest V, which I'm playing for the first time. Japan seems to think this is the best Dragon Quest, and I can see why - it's pretty rad. Do I like it more than IV? That remains to be seen, I highly doubt it since IV was such an important game for me, but V certainly has it's charms. I didn't think I'd like to whole Monster Taming aspect, but it's really not so bad. Still it doesn't beat the cast of actual human characters from IV. The story is pretty interesting so far though, and the rest of the game is just good old quality Dragon Quest.
I guess I'm going to cut this shorter than I would have liked. My teeth are hurting so I took a pain pill and I'm starting to feel high now, plus I'm still tired so I should go back to bed. I wanted to talk about some more games like Fire Emblem Shadow Dragon, Phantasy Star Portable, Street Fighter IV, and Mad World and Resident Evil 5 which we'll be getting this week. I also wanted to talk about some of the anime I've been watching like Regios, which for whatever reason I really like despite the fact that it's not that great. Oh and how I came to be obsessed with The Lonely Island. I guess all of that will have to wait for a later date though.
